Spiritual Magic

Spirituality is often confused with magic. Better put, where does spirituality end and magic begin, or are they both one and the same? Magicians, witches and the like will often talk about being in touch with their spiritual side. Movies that deal with spiritual mysteries such as the religion of Voodoo often contain magical elements too.
Movies with a spiritual theme deal with a wide array of phenomenon, such as raising or speaking to the dead. The Voodoo religion is probably the best known spiritual religion in the United States, with many movies dealing with the Louisiana form of Voodoo, as it is relatively close to home for the American audience, yet still foreign enough to elicit the desired response.

Recently, the Church of THC has gained quite some popularity with the current debate for legalization of marijuana. This church is basically founded on the belief that the Hemp plant is holy, and has been used for centuries as a medium to gain a higher sense of spirituality. While the fact that marijuana induces a heightened state of spiritual awareness might be debated, the reality is that this religion is slowly gaining popularity and widespread acceptance.

So-called magic healing is also seen in spiritual movies and shows. A preacher, or healer, lays his hands upon a paralyzed devotee, who miraculously starts walking. Or in the context of movies, a couple survives unnaturally by transferring their souls to a new body when their current body has served its purpose (The Skeleton Key).

Was the paralyzed devotee healed through the spirituality of the preacher, or was there magic at play? Those who practice the Wicca religion will tell you that magic is spirituality. Whether or not that is true is left to be found out, but healing a paralyzed person? Magical!
